Warrior27 2006 (issue#2)
4 out of 5 Stars
“Warrior Twenty-Seven is the strongest anthology title I've yet come across. It covers its bases with quality artwork, quality writing, and enough genuine - but themed - variety to neither alienate nor bore. More than that, the stories within this book - particularly the narrative-heavy "The Palace of Winds" - leave you wanting more information on the characters and the worlds being depicted. All told, this is a pretty tasty collection involving some very talented storytellers.” - Indy Comic Review
Succubi. Zombies. Superheroes. The far future and the wild west. They're all inside the Fall '06 issue of Warrior27, the anthology of comics, prose, criticism, and more. Including work from artists as far away as Argentina and Tanzania, and as close to home as the woods of Maine. Including an interview with Chris Staros from TopShelf Productions – publishers of the graphic novels FROM HELL, BLANKETS, THE BAREFOOT SERPENT, and LOST GIRLS – and WHY [this year] I HATE BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS.
The second issue of our black and white comics & prose anthology with a haunting cover image by Dan Fleming. This comic houses 48 pages of 2-D entertainment. An homage to Britain’s Warrior Magazine from the 1980s with a heavy debt owed to classic EC comics and Twilight Zone episodes, this one includes four short comic tales ranging in genre and style along with a short prose story from Matt Constantine in the vein of Edgar Rice Burroughs all revolving around weird or disjointed relationships. Add in a Chris Staros interview and Dan’s “I Hate Brian Michael Bendis,” and this one has it all. With art by five artists from five countries (Tanzania, Canada, Argentina, the Philippines, and the U.S.) including one – Azim Akberali – who was recently nominated for two Eagle Awards, this book is beautiful to look at and a steal at only 3 bucks.
